Project description
The INVASOR-ES project aims to develop advanced technological solutions to combat invasive alien species (IAS) in hydraulic infrastructure, especially irrigation systems. These species, such as the zebra mussel, the apple snail and bryozoans, cause serious problems in infrastructure: blockages, breakdowns, high maintenance costs and loss of agricultural productivity.
This project will be an opportunity to implement new technologies, where the use of advanced monitoring sensors combined with machine vision and deep learning will allow the accurate and efficient identification and classification of different invasive species larvae. The main outcome of the project is the creation of monitoring stations based on machine vision that detect IAS at larval and adult stages in real time through automatic sampling and artificial intelligence. This disruptive technology will enable more efficient preventive control, reducing dependence on traditional chemical treatments, which are costly and harmful to the environment.
The project also seeks to develop specific strategies for emerging IAS, for which no efficient preventive methodologies currently exist. These solutions will be adapted to the particular needs of each infrastructure, integrating sustainable and environmentally friendly techniques while reducing operating costs and minimising the risk of economic impact.
